Year 2017 marks the centennial of Finland’s independence and Fiskars’ world famous orange-handled scissors will turn 50 years. To welcome the New Year, Fiskars will celebrated in Times Square with Waterford, one of the key brands in Fiskars’ brand portfolio. Waterford has been a part of the New Year’s Eve celebration in Times Square since 1999. The Waterford Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball, which is dropped at midnight, is made up of 2,688 skillfully crafted Waterford Crystal triangles. This year, 288 of the crystal triangles introduce a new pattern, “Gift of Kindness,” celebrating acts of kindness that enrich our souls, promote understanding and strengthen the bonds of humanity.

After the New Year’s celebrations, the ball remains on display 365 days of the year at One Times Square. After use, the switched out crystal triangles are stored in a vault at the House of Waterford in Ireland, where the crystals were made or donated for a charitable cause.

An estimated million people are expected to join the NYE celebrations at Times Square, with a further billion tuning in worldwide for the star-studded TV coverage of the event.
