The reel deal - new mower hits the mark
With climate change and diminishing fossil fuels constantly in the news, environmentally conscious products are growing in popularity among gardeners. In early 2010, Fiskars launched a hand-powered grass cutter in the USA. This new reel mower does not require fuel or electronics, cuts grass instead of ripping it, is completely silent, and helps to keep users fit at the same time - unsurprisingly it has become a great success and has been featured in a number of TV shows and newspapers.
Reinventing the reel
The new mower makes use of a blend of patent-pending technologies to bring the reel mechanism back into the mainstream in a world of environmental concern and spiraling fuel prices. No need to worry about gasoline, oil, battery charging, the hassle of electrical cords, or the noise created by other mowers.
The InertiaDrive™ technology doubles the cutting power of a standard reel mower, and the StaySharp™ cutting system eliminates the cost and inconvenience of blade sharpening. Finally, VersaCut™ height adjustment provides a clean cut on any type of grass; forward reel position for ultra-close side edging and mess-free grass discharge; and ergonomic design for easy adjustment and excellent maneuverability. These features combined make Fiskars' model 40% easier to push than other reel mowers, helping you get more done with less effort.
The new mower has met with praise right across the board, receiving accolades including the Popular Mechanics 2010 Green Design Award. Consumer Reports magazine recommended it over all other reel mowers in May 2010, and in November the Product Design & Development web site reported that the mower is "one of the most advanced models to come on the market." The mower was even featured on the Martha Stewart show in April 2010.
